the difference of horizontal pump and vertical pump

Connection form: vertical pumps are superimposed and connected from bottom to top, horizontal pumps are arranged longitudinally on the base. Vertical pumps are commonly called pipeline pumps such as vertical pipeline centrifugal pumps. The motor and the pump body are connected by sub-ports; horizontal pumps are connected The shaft device is connected with the motor and needs to be aligned regularly.

Occupied space: the vertical pump occupies a small area while the horizontal pump occupies a large area. The vertical pump set occupies a smaller area than the horizontal pump, so it is not necessary to lay the foundation; the horizontal pump set has a base and needs to lay the foundation.

Maintenance difficulty: Vertical pumps are difficult to maintain. For example, the upper part of the impeller must be removed before it can be performed. For horizontal pumps, it is relatively easy, such as the IS pump, as long as the inlet pipe is removed.

Installation form: the vertical pump is connected as a whole, which is easy to install; while the horizontal pump needs to be adjusted for accuracy after installation.

In terms of choice, most people will like to use horizontal centrifugal pumps, mainly because horizontal pumps are simple, easy to repair and maintain. The vertical centrifugal pump is troublesome to maintain and needs to be lifted every time it is repaired. And the long shaft pump needs to replace the sliding bearing under the liquid for a long time. If it is not replaced, the possible consequence is that the centrifugal force of the shaft becomes larger and larger, which causes the shaft runout value to become larger (public number: pump housekeeper). If it is not replaced in time , Will cause mechanical accidents. And when installing, ensure that the installation is absolutely horizontal.

But the vertical centrifugal pump also has its advantages:

First, vertical centrifugal pumps are mostly used in working conditions that cannot be installed in underground tanks. Or because there is no open space on site for the horizontal centrifugal pump, the vertical centrifugal pump can only be placed on the tank.

Second, if an ordinary horizontal pump (not a self-priming pump) has a poor self-priming ability, it will not be able to extract the medium from the tank below. Therefore, horizontal pumps and vertical pumps are not comparable.

There are also the following situations, you need to use the vertical:

   1. In places where the water level fluctuates greatly, the pump should be installed at a low water level. In this case, the vertical type is used to reduce the area of the station and reduce earthwork. Reduce infrastructure investment. Large single-suction centrifugal pumps and axial flow pumps are mostly vertical.

   2. Suction deeper groundwater. For liquids such as petroleum or brine, vertical deep-well pumps are required. Another reason why large single-suction pumps are vertical is that water-lubricated bearings with a simple structure can be used. At this time, the water-lubricated bearings have a small load and light wear increases the bearing life.

  3. Some high-pressure and small-flow pumps are prone to unstable operation due to the large number of stages and the slender shaft of the pump. One of the measures to change this situation is to use a vertical pump and subject the pump bearing to a certain tension.

  4. Use the potential energy to increase the cavitation margin at the impeller inlet, and the first stage impeller inlet is placed at the lowest position during the use of the pump, such as a vertical condensate pump.

   5. The floor space of the pump is restricted, such as marine pumps.
